One Small Candle future Plymouth!
Mayflower 400 and One Small Candle - Plymouth, Devon, England
One Small Candle is an award winning community interest group with the main focus being on the Mayflower 400 in 2020 celebrations. We are authentically costumed Pilgrims and our ages vary from 9 - 65. We are growing very fast.
Recently we were nominated by hundreds of people and went on to win the Plymouth Herald
Community award. We are truly flattered and excited … looking forward to 2017 and all the local events we will attend.
We tell the Pilgrim - Mayflower story with little bits of very amateur theatre. We are looking to grow this part of One Small Candle and are seeking partners that want to be a high profile part of 2017 up to 2020 and beyond.
We are a happy group that are kind and pleasant to everyone we come into contact with… we have no room for a big ego…..
One Small Candle was Heritage Lottery funded and this grant got us off to a fantastic start we will be seeking people to write our next bids soon
We work closely with Plymouth College of Art Costume Department and Lipson Co-operative Academy. We have other partners and are looking to grow this area.
The Mayflower Heritage Trail was launched in November 2016 and was a wonderful success. There is a script for the trail and we are willing to share it with all partners. The trail is a walk in the footsteps of the Pilgrims whilst the Mayflower and Speedwell were berthed on Plymouth’s Barbican. The tour is presented in a quirky manner with random Pilgrims and characters “popping up” along the trail.
We are looking to make professional video film clips of the Pilgrims telling tales of life on board the Mayflower. Our Pilgrim children have started practicing telling brief tales from 1620.
We have a forty strong choir forming along with a philharmonic led by well known professional Musical Director Marcus Alleyne. The One Small Candle Choir will be singing drama packed American and British anthems.
We have also introduced Mayflower Guides www.mayflowerguides.com The guides take visitors on historical and interesting tours of the Barbican area. The tours last about sixty minutes. We are looking for guides of all ages to add to our roster. Training is given.
So….One Small Candle is looking for
Pilgrim volunteers of all ages (we have eighteen costumes on the way and six in storage)
Schools and Colleges to get involved in all aspects. Particularly theatre
A secretary to be part of our committee. Someone with PR strengths and our organising voice.
We need fundraisers. No-one at One Small Candle gets paid a salary or fee but we do need expenses, costumes and artefacts this costs and we need funds to keep the dynamics going.
Drama teachers, tour guides, videographers, photographers, story writers, storage space, performing space and prop makers... in fact if you can imagine it we probably need it!
Local restaurants, ice cream shops and coffee/tea bars are welcome to sponsor us with nibbles and drinks. Clean and safe toilet stops,
All adults are DBS checked.
